Texas has one of the most established on-premise venue cultures in the country, and four large metros that behave quite differently from each other.
The shape of the scene
Houston and Dallas–Fort Worth are the two heavyweights, both with long-running venue scenes and large private circuits. San Antonio is quieter and military-shaped. Austin behaves like a West Coast city, with a younger crowd and a broader non-monogamy culture.
What unites them is scale. Texas metros are physically enormous, and an hour behind the wheel to reach an event is an ordinary Saturday rather than a special effort.
Venues, alcohol and why so many clubs are BYOB
Texas has a long tradition of private membership clubs, and the bring-your-own model is widespread among adult venues. Some counties in the state remain wholly or partly dry, which affects what is possible outside the metros more than inside them.

Houston to Dallas is around four hours, Houston to Austin under three, Austin to San Antonio about ninety minutes. The Austin–San Antonio pair functions almost as one extended scene; the others are genuinely separate.
Outside the metros
Outside the four metros and the Rio Grande Valley, the state is thinly served. Couples in West Texas or the Panhandle typically travel to Dallas, Albuquerque or Oklahoma City, which are all long drives.
The character of the scene here
Texas is one of the few states where a newcomer can plausibly start at a venue rather than online, simply because the venues are visible and long-established. That is a genuine difference from most of the country, and it is why Texas scenes feel more accessible to visitors.

The trade-off is that a large venue night is a fast introduction. Most experienced Texas couples suggest a meet-and-greet first, and the state has plenty of them.
