Swingers clubs in San Francisco, CA
The Bay Area scene sits inside a much broader ecosystem of non-monogamy, and the boundaries between swinging, polyamory and kink are blurrier here than anywhere else in the country.
What the scene here is like
The scene here sits within a much broader ecosystem of non-monogamy, and the boundaries between swinging, polyamory and kink communities are blurrier than in most places. Events that would be clearly one thing elsewhere are often a mix here.
That has a practical consequence: labels do more work in the Bay Area than they do elsewhere, and people expect you to be specific about what you are looking for. Turning up with vague intentions gets you a polite conversation and not much else.
Where things actually happen
San Francisco itself hosts a lot of the organised and semi-public events, particularly in the eastern neighbourhoods. The East Bay has its own substantial and rather different scene, and the Peninsula and South Bay are quieter and more private.
Bridge tolls and the bridges themselves shape attendance in a way that surprises newcomers. An event across the bay is a real commitment on a weekday evening, and the two sides socialise less than the map suggests they would.
Timing, seasons and travel
Fairly steady year-round. The main variation is a busier late-summer and early-autumn calendar, and a noticeable dip around the winter holidays.
Venues we have been able to verify
Short list, and deliberately so. Everything below was corroborated against at least one source that is not a directory, and carries the date it was last checked. Absence from this list means we have not verified a place, not that it does not exist.
| Venue | Type | Where | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power Exchange | On-premise club | Tenderloin, central San Francisco | A three-level venue open to all genders and orientations, with a couples-only floor. Around thirty years old and relocated several times before settling at its current address. Note that as of mid-2026 the building was placed for sale; the club holds a lease running to 2036 and the sale is not expected to displace it, but this is worth confirming before travelling. Checked 2026-07 · San Francisco Standard (local press, May 2026), MadameNoire national guide (2025), Yelp listing (2026), venue's own site |
Confirm directly with the venue before you travel. Opening nights, membership requirements and admission policies change constantly, and we deliberately do not carry them here for exactly that reason.

Explicit communication is the local norm to a degree that visitors find startling. Say plainly what you are and are not interested in; it is expected, not rude.
The general order — talk to each other, then meet people online, then meet in public, then consider an event — is covered in how to find people.
Local safety notes
The overlap with kink communities means some events have structures and etiquette that swinger-only events do not. Read the rules for the specific event rather than assuming.
The universal rules are on our safety page: public first meeting, your own transport, somebody who knows your plans, and never sending money to anyone you have not met.
California context
California venues typically run as private membership clubs, and many are bring-your-own rather than licensed. More in our California overview.
Questions about the San Francisco scene
How do couples get started in San Francisco?
The usual route is meeting people online first, then a drink somewhere public. Events come later, once a few faces are familiar.
Is there an active lifestyle scene in San Francisco?
Yes, and unusually varied — but a lot of what you find will be broader non-monogamy rather than swinging in the narrow sense.
Do we have to do anything at our first event?
No — and most couples do not. Turning up, talking to a few people and going home is a completely normal first night, and nobody keeps score.
When is the best time of year in San Francisco?
Steady all year, slightly busier from August through October.
How do we stay safe meeting people?
Meet somewhere public first, arrange your own transport, tell a friend where you are going, and never send money to anyone you have not met in person.
